Padmanabhapuram Palace is located close to 50 km from Thiruvananthapuram. The palace is open from 9 in the morning till 4:30 in the evening. Closed on Mondays and all National holidays, you can visit the palace any time in between.

Considered to be among the 10 best palaces in the world, the Padmanabhapuram Palace was built in 1601 A.D by Ravipillai Ravivarma Kulasekhara Perumal. Once the seat of Travancore rulers, the palace was considered as an ancient capital.

Thronged by hundreds of tourists everyday, the palace is truly a sight to behold. Famous for its 17th and 18th century murals, the palace has innumerable secret passages, a bedazzling dinning hall and a breath taking museum.

The king's council chamber is said to be the most beautiful part of Padmanabhapuram Palace. From the stunning coloured mica windows to the latticed work, the council will completely surprise you.

The palace is situated in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu but is looked after the Government of Kerala. If you are a history buff and an aspiring patron of art and architecture, the lovely palace is definitely the place for you.

Though photography is allowed here, there is a minimum charge to be paid. If this is your first visit, it would be advisable to opt for the guided tour of the magnificent palace lest you miss out on something.
