Kathmandu is an interesting mix of cultural and religious diversity. The strong influences of Hinduism and Buddhism can be experienced in this vibrant city. From its grand monuments, stupas and other architectural wonders to the simple way of life, Kathmandu is symbolic of its tolerant people and religious beliefs. The diversity offered by other religions such as Christianity and Jainism has been warmly welcomed and accepted into the Nepalese culture.
The variety in architecture and art owes its origination and existence to the old trade route between India and Tibet that passed through Kathmandu and opened doors for this fusion and interaction.

The rituals, customs, art, architecture and lifestyle is deeply associated with religion. Traditional practices and customs are still followed with great zeal and enthusiasm. It is almost impossible to separate the culture and lifestyle of Kathmandu with religion.

The dominant language in the city is Gorkhali or Nepali, which is also the national language of the country. For many, Nepali is secondary to the language of their ethnic group or region.
What you can't ignore in this lively city is its spicy and delectable cuisine. Kathmandu is very proud of its local delicacies. The cooking style of the Nepalese is deeply inspired by Indian and Tibetan cooking. Dal Bhat Tarkari is the staple food of the city and so is the delicious rice pudding.
