The area of Farrukhnagar is located in the Gurgaon district, housing both the Sheesh Mahal and the very popular Sultanpur National Bird Sanctuary. Most of the flora and fauna is on display there in all its natural glory. This sanctuary is flocked by bird watchers all year round, but it is best suited to go there during the winter season to enjoy its full bounty and beauty.

Some of the residential birds are Purple Sunbird, Spot Billed duck, Eurasian thick- knee, Black Headed Ibis, Common Hoopoe, Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Indian Roller, Black and Grey Francolin, Great Egret, India Crested Lark, Little Cormorant and the rare Paddyfeild pipit.

More than 100 migratory bird species flock to Sultanpur in search of feeding grounds every year especially to pass the winter. Rare and beautiful migratory birds such as Ruff, White Wagtail, Common Greenshark, Yellow Wagtail, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal and Rosy Pelican.

While at the sanctuary, try to take out the time to visit the small museum and library that will familiarize you with the various birds and other fauna that you will come across on your visit here. There are various good places to visit in Gurgaon. As for the flora around the area, efforts are being by the Farrukhnagar local administration to improve vegetation in area by planting more trees, especially those which are popular with the birds who flock the area because of the bird sanctuary too like Acacia Nilotica, Acacia Tortilis, Beris and Neem etc.

If you are interested in experiencing the flora and fauna of Farrukhnagar first hand, you must make it a point to visit the Sultanpur National Bird Park. To know more about the place and its history please visit out travel guide page on Sheesh Mahal.
