Number of temples in Varanasi are irrelevant. They are countless. But there are at least 20 famous temples, the most famous are the Kashi Vishwanath Temple near Godaullia. Other famous temples are New Kashi Vishwanath Temple in BHU campus; Sankat Mochan Temple, Durga Temple, Tulsi Manas Temple and Tridev Temple, all four in closed vicinity of Durgakund, Shitla Mata Temple at Shitla Ghat, Annapurna Temple near Old Kahsi Vishwanath Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple near Visheshwarganj to name a few. There are many Buddhist Temple in Sarnath Area also.
On the banks of the holy river Ganges, Varanasi is home to numerous revered temples. One among the main temples in Varanasi is the Kashi Vishwanath Temple which is a famous Hindu temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple lies towards the western bank of the holy river Ganges, and preserves one of the twelve Jyotirlingas that is considered to be the holiest of Shiva temples.
