Known to be one of the most holy Hindu pilgrimages, the Amarnath Yatra will be held from the 2nd of July to the 29th of August 2015.

To reach Amarnath from Pathankot city, it would be advisable to first reach either Pahalgam or Baltal and hence start the trek upwards.

Situated at a distance of 349 km and 450 km respectively from Pathankot, you can take the train till Jammu and then cover the rest of the distance by either taxi or bus. The distance from the city of Jammu to Pahalgam is close to 200 km which will take you about 3 hours. There is a good availability of Jammu to Pahalgam cabs, so finding one won't be an issue. On the other hand the journey from Jammu to Baltal is 400 km which will take you another 5 to 6 hours in a Jammu to Baltal cab.

The trek to holy Amarnath from Pathankot is spread over 5 days unless you take the helicopter till Panjtarni. From Baltal, the 14 km trek till Amarnath can be covered on foot/ponies via Domail, Barari Marg and Sangam. Dandies are also available for handicapped and old aged pilgrims. Though this route on the Amarnath Yatra is shorter and faster, it is slightly more steep and narrow in comparison to the route from Pahalgam.
