about badami

With temples dating back to 550 AD, the Bhutanatha Caves depict the religious tolerance of the Chalukya rulers, incorporating into themselves Hindu, Jain and Buddhist philosophies. These cave temples display the best techniques of Dravidian architecture and ornamentation. The Badami (Vatapi) Fort, situated atop a cliff near the temples is an architectural marvel and replete with beauty, both man-made and natural. Best place for the traveller who wishes to take a break from the city and explore ancient monuments. Badami (Vatapi) also beckons the adventurer with its bolted tracks and opportunities for free climbing. Having survived the trials of time, this city dotted with temples and monuments still charms several tourists.
