I have a 5 hour layover at Mumbai Airport? What are the places that I can visit in that time & make it back to catch my flight?

You can edit the last step depending upon your crazy quotient !
Step 1) Get out of the airport, walk away from the airport. (The autos and taxis at the airport are crazy expensive.)
Step 2) Take an auto to Vile Parle station. (Costs Rs15-Rs20. Many of the autos will say a straight NO, because it is too close, but convince one of them to take you and you are set.)
Step 3) You CAN reach Churchgate station in under 45 mins from here, which is the southernmost station. Fare: Rs 10.
A Taxi to Leopold's Cafe, Colaba - Rs30 - 10mins. Take a look at the Gateway of India, have something at Leopold's, do some roadside shopping and head back.

The trains have two ladies' compartments, which are not very crowded. And not crowded at all on weekends. Apart from being cheap, local trains are the fastest means of transportation.

If you have a place in mind that you'd like to visit, I can tell you the nearest station. 5 hours is good enough time to make dash to any place in south bombay (SoBo) IF you use the train.
Thanks! Leopold Cafe was on my list, have been there before. This means I can make it to Marine drive as well, right? But wouldn't be traveling in the train. Will be taking a cab. Also, how about Taraporewala Aquarium, is that possible?
Train was the keyword there. Never try to take on High tides and mumbai traffic ! At times, on weedays, it can take you 2 hours from airport to Colaba or Marine drive. On a saturday or sunday you can pull this off in a cab. By train, yes, you can make it to marine drive. There is the Charni Road station and the Marine Lines station. Taraporewala is there only.
Perfect answer Anurag. Kritika its best to take the train else there are high chances that you might just miss your flight. There is construction work in progress a few kms ahead of the airport that can worsen the situation
