Bonjour! Here are some of the most interesting facts about French Open, we bet you didn’t know.


1. French Open is also known as Roland Garros, and we all thought of it to be just the name of the venue.

2. Though Tennis has a huge fan following in France (Western Europe), “Football” is actually their National sport.


3. Only two men and three women from France have won their home tournament in Roland-Garros till now.


4. The French Open began in 1891 and it was then open for male players alone. It was only in 1897, that women were allowed to participate in the tournament.

5. Roland Garros was a tennis enthusiast and hence the stadium was named after him. How many of you known that even the airport is named after the aviator.

6. French Open was only cancelled from 1939 -1945 because of World War II.


7. Stade Roland Garros, the stadium has the capacity for 14,840 spectators.

8. Men's Singles winner is awarded the Coupe des Mousquetaires which translates as the "Musketeer's Cup". The Women's Singles winner is awarded the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen.
