about jaigarh fort

Often called the best fort in all of Jaipur, the Jaigarh Fort features amongst the most well-preserved monuments of medieval India. Jaipur was a major region of weapon production during the Mughal times and you can see the specimens of this artillery when you visit the museum inside the fort. This fort was constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh II to protect the Amer Fort in the occurrence of an invasion.

Best known for housing the world's largest cannon, the Jaivana, which was test-fired only once, Jaigarh Fort is another magnificent example of fine architecture in Jaipur. Two very tempting reasons to visit the fort are the beautiful gardens and the spellbinding views of the Amber Fort and the hills around. This massive structure spans close to 3 km and is about 1 km wide, and houses the Lalit Mandir, Vilas Mandir, Lakshmi Vilas and Aram Mandir.

The lush green gardens in the palace complex are a treat to the eyes, and it is fascinating to wonder how they were maintained in the ancient times in the drylands of Jaipur. The fort also provides some excellent views of the Aravallis, totally worth some clicks.

Very recently, a 325 metre long, 18th-century tunnel which connects Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort was opened to the public after renovation and excavation. This is a major tourist draw these days. For the sake of the elderly, golf operated carts are run along this tunnel to make seeing both the sites easier.
