about janaki kund

Another sacred spot in the holy town of Chitrakoot, Janaki Kund is a bathing pool where Sita devi, the wife of Lord Rama, is believed to have taken baths during her stay here. Consecrated by Sita devi, this reservoir attracts lot of pilgrims, who come to take a dip in the clear blue waters. There are steps leading down to the pool on the left bank of Mandakini river. There are a number of boulders scattered around the area, one of which has a footprint imprinted on it. It is a local belief that the footprints belong to Sita devi herself. Not far from the pond, a statue of Hanuman has been erected on the river bank, and a Rama-Sita temple has also been constructed. For those who are not religiously inclined, a visit to Janaki Kund would far from disappoint. The pond is located in a quiet and peaceful region, surrounded by abundant natural beauty, which makes it a perfect spot to relax and unwind right in the lap of nature.
