about jayamangali blackbuck conservation reserve

Wide open grasslands, tanned to their very roots by the burning sun, Jayamangali Blackbuck Conservation Reserve is one of the few places in India where you catch sight of the sinewy frames of blackbucks sprinting around. With the largest population of blackbucks in Karnataka next to Ranibennur Blackbuck Sanctuary, Jayamangali Blackbuck Conservation Reserve is a sight to behold with flighty fawns leaping and bounding, blackbucks returning your gaze with ever-arched eyebrows and butterflies flittering about.

Created by the sustained effort and dedication of the Wildlife Aware Nature Club in Tumakuru in 2007, Tumkur’s first ever protected area, Jayamangali Blackbuck Conservation reserve is home to the Indian wolves, jungles cats, civets, gray mongooses and many more small mammals, apart from the reserve’s star residents, the blackbucks.

If its feathered beings you seek then fish out your binoculars and be prepared for the time of your life catching sight of some extremely rare birds like the Indian Courser and Painted Sandgrouse and who knows you might be the lucky one to spot the Great Indian Bustard, that hasn’t been in years.

Be careful walking through the grassland craning your neck looking for rare birds as the landscape is dotted with 14 different species of snakes.
