about kangla fort

This beautiful, partly-in-ruins fort is a doorway to the rich heritage of the people of Manipur and its culture. Situated in the heart of Imphal city, the enchanting Kangla Fort is the pride of Manipur. Surrounded by greenish-blue moats on all sides and dotted with plethora of giant trees, this popular tourist destination is one of the most holiest spots for the Meetei community of Manipur.

Coloured with numerous mind-enthralling anecdotes and myths, Kangla Fort has the power to charm locals and tourist alike. The majestic gate will welcome you to a world of bygone eras. Many new structures have been built inside the fort among which, are the huge figures of the mythical dragon, Kangla-sha. Be ready to feel the peace and serenity as you climb up the marble stairs to the Ibudhou Pakangba temple. Stroll down the partly-in-ruins red-brick temple of Brindaban Chandra, Shri Govindaji temple and other structures, all the while admiring the natural beauty around the area. Apart from all these, on the southern side, there is a museum, which houses many interesting artifacts related to the history of Manipur and on the north-eastern side, a huge rose garden adorns the fort.
