about kebabs and kurries

Kebabs & Kurries has the typical rugged North-West Frontier ambience, minimalist décor with copper slate flooring, sandstone walls & pillars, and antique artifacts adding to the 'Indianness'. The sight of the clear glass live kitchen with its array of iron tandoors, skewers, clay ovens, rustic tawas, pans and spit charcoal grills, drums up your appetite as you walk in. As expected, the menu here is brimming over with kebabs, kormas, qaliyas and salans in the best traditions of the ITC signature restaurants Bukhara and Dum Pukht. Try their Burra and Kakori Kebabs, Tali Sabz Macchli, Murgh Angaar, Tandoori Jhinga and Pudina Paneer Tikka, all of them superlative, with the grilled aroma, which is just the right shade of subtlety.

The Tali Macchli, (white pomfret fillet marinated in a paste of fresh garlic, green chillies and coriander leaves, crumbed and pan fried on a tawa), especially, is a culinary masterpiece, crisp on the outside, and melting with the aroma of the green paste, inside. So are Tandoori Jhinga (jumbo prawns marinated in an ajwain-flavoured mixture of yoghurt, red chillies, turmeric and garam masala, skewered and roasted over charcoal). Excellent korma (curry) options include Murgh Korma and Murgh Bemisaal and Do Pyaza Gosht.

For vegetarians, don't miss the evergreen Dal Bukhara, that rich, creamy and delicious black lentils speciality, or the Aloo mandra' (stuffed potato barrels simmered in a curd-based gravy). There is an assortment of Indian breads like Warqi Parathas. For desserts, do try Yaquti, (broken basmati rice and moong dal cooked in milk and reduced on low heat, and enriched with khoya), it's a refreshing (and lighter on the palate) change from the usual Shahi Tukras and Khubani ka Meethas served up at these places.

Had dinner here with a big group of friends and we ordered various dishes. Almost every dish was splendid and so were the desserts. The ambience also left nothing to be desired.
