Kerala to Soon Get 200 Kmph Semi-High Speed Railway Corridor

In a bid to boost Kerala’s transport sector, the government has approved the semi-high speed rail (SHSR) project between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod.

Once the corridor is complete, passengers will be able to travel between these destinations in just four hours instead of the present twelve hours.

The 540 km long, double-line project, named Silver Line, is a joint venture of the Railway Ministry and Kerala government.The SHSR project is estimated to cost Rs 66,079 crore. Trains would run at a speed of 200 km per hour on this route.


Along with daily passengers, the corridor would also serve as an important freight transport route. The project would also include many eco-friendly features like the use of clean energy and low emission construction equipment.
