about kesariya stupa

Kesariya Stupa is believed to be the world's highest stupa and is a famous tourist spot, which is a part of the Bodh Circuit tour, organised  by the state tourism department of Bihar. Standing tall at a height of more than 30 m and a width of more than 400 m, this stupa will invoke a sense of peace and spirituality in all believers of Buddhism. The stupa is believed to have been more than 45 m tall before an earthquake reduced it to its current height.

The place where this stupa stands today is believed to be the same place where Lord Buddha gave his begging bowl to the residents of Vaishali, after staying a night at Kessaputta, the then Kesariya. This legend combined with the archaeological excavation by the Archaeological Survey of India makes this place one of the most revered spot in the Bodh Circuit.
