about kirti mandir

A famous temple complex of Vadodara, Kirti Mandir is dedicated to the popular Hindu god, Lord Shiva. This beautifully designed temple complex was built by Maharaj Sayajirao Gaekwad in the year 1936 as a part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration. Also known as the Temple of Fame, this temple is considered to be the cenotaph of the ancestors of the royal family of Baroda. The unique part of this temple is the tall sikhara, the most prominent structure in a Hindu temple, which houses idols and statues of gods or goddesses. The sikhara of this temple has the sun, moon and the earth, along with a map of India before the partition, all in bronze. If you go inside the temple, you will have the chance to witness the beautifully carved murals as well as the various designs on the walls, all in marble. The temple complex also houses paintings by Raja Ravi Varma besides many items used by the royal family.
