about kunchikal falls

Located near Masthikatte-Hulikal bordering Shimoga district of Karnataka, Kunchikal Falls or Kunchikal Abbe cascades down the rocky boulders from a height of 455 meters, thus making it the highest waterfall in India. The falls originate from Varahi river and adds to the natural beauty of the place. After the construction of Mani Dam near Masthikatte and underground power station, the water flow to this fall has greatly reduced and can be visible only during rainy season. Also public movement around the waterfall is restricted for security reasons, which has resulted in keeping the area clean and pollution free. The cascading silver waters of this fall in the midst of thick greenery of the foot hills make it an exciting picnic spot locked away from the din of city life
