about lothal

World's earliest known port town, Lothal is yet another significant city from the Indus Valley Civilization. Discovered in 1955, Lothal was a trading point for precious gems, beads, etc that would be shipped off to Africa and West Asia, with the metallurgy and bead making techniques that were used back in the day still having survived 4,000 years later. Not only was a dock unearthed in the excavation, so were an entire township and marketplace. Right next to the site is the Archaeological Museum where a lot of artifacts from the Indus era are on display.

This is perhaps the closest you can get to the Indus Valley Civilisation in today's time. Dholavira is the only better bet than Lothal for a slice of a civilisation long lost.
