Maa Tarini is the female embodiment of power and the chief presiding goddess of all Shakti and Tantra shrines of Orissa. She is portrayed as a red face with big eyes and a mark in the middle, as an indication for nose and tilak. The fancy letters at the background of mean "Maa" or Mother in the Oriya language. Major festivals observed annually at the Shrine are Makara Sankranti (January 14-16), Maha Visubha Sankranti (April 14-16), Raja Sankranti (June 14-16). It is considered the best time to visit the temple. Thousands of coconuts are sent to Maa Tarini temple everyday by devotees. It is believed that all your wishes come true if you carry this practice regularly.
