about malyavanta raghunatha swamy temple

On the road to Kampli is Malyavanta Hill where significant events from Ramayana had unfolded, and commemorating them is the Malyavanta Raghunatha Swamy Temple. Commanding a beautiful, sweeping view of Hampi it was at Malyavanta hill that Lord Rama and Lakshmana had taken refuge when Lord Hanuman went searching for Sita. There are two gopurams marking the temple's entrance. The main shrine consists of Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Sita's idols with the idol of Lord Hanuman kneeling close to them- all carved out of a single boulder. Right behind the temple is a cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva with a small shivling.

A fascinating and distinct aspect of the temple are its inner wall carvings. Scattered throughout the inner walls are fishes and other marine creatures, both mythical and real. Malyavanta Raghunatha Temple is one of the ideal places to watch the sun set and see the scattered ruins glimmer in fading shades of goldstone, amber and champagne.
