about marble palace mansion

Built by one of the wealthiest merchants in West Bengal in the nineteenth century, the Marble Palace Mansion stands today as one of the best preserved monuments in Kolkata. Characterised by its intricately carved marble pillars, flooring and walls, this place bears a close resemblance the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Grand chandeliers, victorian furniture, magnificent sculptures and some of the most coveted paintings of Indian and International artists dot the winding corridors here, giving the place an aura of complete luxury.

Part of the  Marble Palace Mansion is inhabited by the descendants of Raja Rajendra Mullick, who built the place. Since it is private property, photography is a strict no no and you need a special permit to visit the place. You can obtain this permit at the West Bengal Tourism Information Bureau at BBD Bag, Kolkata. Once you are inside the premises, you will be given an escorted tour across the property, where the guide will provide valuable insights about the various objects d'art.
