3 words: The Carpets Smell !!!
by Moostro on 04 May 2016
This is such a common example of a four star Chinese hotel. They had the money to build it, but they never spent the money to maintain it. The carpets in the hallway smell like a mixture of a wet dog, mildew, and dog urine. The air-conditioners in the room turn on, but I did not find that it ever change the temperature. I believe all of those air filter should be cleaned or REPLACED. 2 people in my group of 5 came home last night with a low fever. Breakfast was quite all right beautiful location...
Best hotel on Gulangyu but even here the carpets are dirty
by helenakitt on 05 Nov 2009 (Friends Traveller)
This hote is on the Gulang yu island off the coast of Xiamen. It's a fun location a short ferry ride away from the city, and it's attraction is the crumbling colonial mansions and the fact that there are no motorised vehicles on the island. It is also a great favourite with Chinese tourists so don't expect it to be peaceful in the main parts of the island. The hotel is modern and had quite good facilties - but I second the comment about the carpets. Here as elsewhere in China they don't seem to...
Decent hotel in a major tourist trap
by Nuffster on 25 Apr 2009 (Couple Traveller)
My SO and I have stayed in a wide range of hotels in China, in a wide range of places. Our suite at the Marine Garden was above average, but not quite "very good". Carpets were very stained and like other hotels we've stayed in, even very high end ones, the carpets are not vacuumed daily. As other reviewers have noted, there are no elevators in this hotel and lots and lots of stairs, so it wouldn't be great for the elderly or disabled. There is an indoor pool, but it is not heated, as advertis...
Don't stay here out of season!
by ltu00 on 13 Apr 2008 (Couple Traveller)
This appears to be a beautiful (if maybe a bit unsympathetic to its surroundings) hotel in a beautiful location. But be warned - they charged us 4 star hotel prices to stay a few weeks ago. We went into the lobby and checked in despite the relatively high price on the strength of their brochure which showed a great indoor pool, bowling, billards, bar/club etc. The rooms are nice with lovely views (although not terribly well maintained as with many hotels in China). Upon returning in the early ev...
above average hotel
by hipawai8 on 12 Jan 2008 (Family Traveller)
My wife and I spent a night in early January as part of a privately organised tour. We had a room on the second floor with a partial sea view. The view was partially marred by some construction materials in the garden below our room. The room was clean with carpets that were maintained in good condition and a bathroom with full amenities including shampoo and body soap containers. The TV had all the Chinese channels with no foreign channels like CNN or BBC although one could access CCTV 9 the E...
