If you're taking a road trip from Delhi to Jammu then be ready to experience one of the most beautiful drives that India has to offer. From the beautiful mustard fields (DDLJ style sarso ke khet!) to the football and aeroplane shaped water tanks on rooftops, this stretch through Haryana and Punjab is sure to keep you intrigued throughout the way.

The major cities or towns you will cross include Murthal - Karnal - Kurukshetra - Ambala - Ludhiana - Jalandhar and Pathankot. If you’re starting your trip early morning then try to skip breakfast at home and stop over at Murthal to grab a bite at the famous Sukhdev Dhaba and feast on the scrumptious stuffed parathas with dollops of butter.

Your next stop could be Karnal where you could take a short tea break near the Karnal Lake and shop for some artifacts at the adjoining shops. (You’ll also find shops selling not so expensive branded merchandise). Since its on the other side of the road you would either need to take a U turn or you could stop over on your way back.

If you're a bit of a mythology buff you could stop over at Kurukshetra and take a look at the battle field where the great Mahabharata took place or visit the famous Brahma Sarovar.

The Ambala - Ludhiana stretch doesn't really have much to do or see but when you reach Jalandhar you’re probably going to be hungry and here you can choose between two famous eateries located right next to each other. The first is Lucky Dhaba, which has seating arrangements ranging from chaar pais outdoors to air conditioned dining (they call it world famous in Jalandhar) and the other is the well known Haveli (if you're in the mood for a slightly posh meal.)

Your last stop before reaching Jammu should be around Pathankot where you are going to come across endless rows of hawkers selling Ram Laddus (Dal pakodas) with Mooli Lachhas and a chatni to die for, all wrapped in a leaf. They are so yummy that you are surely going to end up having numerous servings.

I hope these tips ensure you have a fun filled and unforgettable road trip.
