about muthanga wildlife sanctuary

Located 17 km east of Sulthan Bathery, the rainforests of Lower Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, also called Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, are part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Sadly, elephant safaris through Muthanga were stopped in 1992-93. It’s unlikely that you will see leopards, sambar, cheetal and other animals endemic to the region here because the waterholes have shrunk and there’s only one watchtower here. But you’ll be rewarded with sightings of elephants and deer. The Wayanad Sanctuary is contiguous with the Nagarhole and Bandipur forests in Karnataka and the Mudumalai Reserve in Tamil Nadu.
