about namdapha national park

The easternmost National Park in the country is a wildlife enthusiast and botanist’s dream come true. It is the only park in the world that hosts four of the big cats — the tiger, leopard, clouded leopard and snow leopard. The thick jungle is home to several species of macaque and the endangered Hoolock gibbon. Birds like the hornbill and Bengal florican nest freely in the 2,000-km park. And there are gorgeous butterflies. The park’s sheer remoteness and inaccessibility have protected it from destruction. More than 150 species of timber stand tall on the hills here.

The park spans some 2,000 sq km of mainly uninhabited forest and contains habitats from riverbanks (650 ft) to the snow-covered peaks of Daphabum (over 14,500 ft). You enter Namdapha through Miao town. A 28-km stretch of forested road, with the Noa-Dehing River on one side, takes you to the Forest Department’s Deban Tourist Complex.
