about pahari mandir

Dedicated to Lord Shankara, another name for Lord Shiva, this famous temple is Ranchi is an austere and simple building, with a quiet aura of spirituality. Once you climb about 400 stairs to reach the main temple, you'll be atop a hill, at an altitude of 2140 feet with a bird's eye view of Ranchi city.

Devotees flock here in the months of Shravan to offer their prayers to the Lingam, apart from of course the auspicious festival of Mahashivratri. As is the case with most Hindu shrines, it is believed that all your wishes are fulfilled if you offer prayers at this shrine.

The most unique aspect of the temple is of course its tryst with the Freedon Struggle. It is believed that during the British era, freedom fighters were hanged to death near this temple as a punishment for their disobedience. Once India gained independence, the locals here raised the Indian flag over the temple as a tribute to the freedom fighters. This soon became a tradition and now the national flag is hoisted on every Independence and Republic Day.
