about pakshipathalam bird sanctuary

Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary boasts of a large population of beautiful birds. Exploring this sanctuary can be a real treat when you come upon hidden treasures at every corner. The sanctuary has brooks, hills and lush forests, all of which add to its natural charm. The nearby evergreen forests house numerous rare species of birds, orchids and herbs. There are watchtowers erected at several spot for the convenience of birdwatchers. If you are an avid birdwatcher, carry your own camping equipment and take a guide along for a prolonged stay. There’s a watchtower on the banks of the Papanashini, a 40-min walk from the temple, which offers a good perch. There are a few ‘private’ guides at Thirunelly to take you up to Pakshipathalam. The watchmen from the Forest Department will also show the way. There’s no fixed fee for guide services, which has to be negotiated. Another attraction here are the natural rock-cut caves. To visit this sanctuary, a special permit from the forest department is required. In short, nature lovers, ornithologists and adventure travellers should not miss out on this one.
