about rinpung dzong

Paro Dzong is a large fortress and a Buddhist monastery sitting on a hilltop. It serves as a house for district monastic body and government administrative office of Paro district. The temple was built in the 15 century by the loacal people for Drung Drung Gyal. It was later constructed into five storey which is known as Hungrel Dzong. Every year, the dzong hosts the great festival tshechu in the second month of Bhutanese calendar. On this ocassion, holy images are taken in procession and is followed by series of traditional mask dances conveying religious stories. In the backdrop of dzong lies beautiful scenery of nature. You can enjoy the great landscapes of Paro valley and the flowing river. It is a great piece of Bhutanese architecture.
