about parvati temple

The Parvati Temple is a good vantage point for enjoying city views. A steep climb of some hundred steps brings you to this shrine. The third Peshwa, Balaji Bajirao alias Nana Saheb built the temple, in 1749. It is a good example of the Maratha style of temple architecture. This fairly popular rendezvous spot for Punaikars also has four smaller temples, dedicated to Ganesha, Bhavani, Vishnu and Surya.

Mercifully, the smell of urine disappears once you reach the top, leaving you to enjoy the temple and the view from the hill. The Peshwa Museum in the temple complex is small but suffused with Peshwa ethos. You’ll find many artefacts of that time here, be it weapons, kitchen utensils, coins or written records. Built on what was once the kitchen of the Peshwa wada, its wooden pillars and ceiling are from the original dwelling.
