about perur pateeshwarar temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the famous Hindu God, the Perur Pateeshwarar Temple attracts a lot of visitors across the year. If we take a look at its history, we will know that its origin dates back to over 1500 years ago and that it has several interesting tales attached to it. Built by the pallayakarar kings, mainly Karikala Cholan, the temple is a fine example of architectural splendour which was so prevalent during that era. It's presiding deities are Pateeswarar (Lord Shiva) and Pachanayaki Amman (goddess Parvati).

Legends has it that this is one of the few self-emerged temples in India. The temple also hosts festivals like Panguni Uthram every year in March and Natyanjali (a dance festival) during September with much pomp and grandeur.
