about piazzale michelangelo

Piazzale Michelangelo or Michelangelo Square is a square that provides a panoramic view of the city of Florence in Italy. The Piazzale was designed by architect Giuseppe Poggi and was built in 1869. It is dedicated to the famous Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti. In the center of the square a replica of the famous statue, ‘The David’ by Michelangelo Buonarroti stands. The statue is made of bronze and is set on a large pedestal.

You will find a lot of local artists creating their artwork with a backdrop of the city. A lot of tourists rush to this place to watch the sunset over the Arno River and enjoy the stunning views of the city. A large number of market stalls selling souvenirs and snacks fill the square. From here you will get a clear view of some of the city's most important landmarks, including the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and Palazzo Vecchio.
