This weekend take a break from the malls or movie halls. Head out with your family and friends to these perfect picnic spots in Delhi NCR instead. Pack a basket of goodies, a couple of mats, a frisbee, a football and you are set for an excellent break in the city.

Lodi Garden

A serene retreat from your busy life, Lodi Garden is where you can feel close to nature. This huge complex was built in 1936 by the British. Yoga enthusiasts, joggers and other nature lovers frequently visit this garden. Whether it’s a cricket match or a frisbee championship, you can indulge in your favourite sport to enjoy a perfect picnic here with family or friends.

Japanese Park


Also known as the Swarn Jayanti Park, the Japanese Park is a beautifully landscaped garden in Sector 11, Rohini. It is maintained by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and is a popular picnic spot. The lush green gardens, spread over 250 acres, with boating facilities and amusement areas especially for children, make this an excellent picnic spot. This garden is also a favourite with walkers and joggers. The Japanese Park is a lovely green oasis amidst the hustle-bustle of the surrounding area.

India Gate Lawns

Damdama Lake

Located around 53 km from Delhi, Damdama Lake is one of the best picnic spots in Delhi NCR and is one of the biggest natural lakes in Haryana. You can enjoy rock climbing, cycling, angling and many other activities here. If you like boating, then this place is perfect place for you. Choose between a paddle boat or a motorboat as you glide over the lake and take in the beautiful scenery.

Deer Park


Located near Safdarjang Enclave, Deer Park is a paradise for joggers, walkers and an excellent place for a picnic. Here you can see deer and peacocks traipse past you as you walk along the verdant greenery. There are also a few rabbit and duck enclosures that are very popular with children and small ponds that add to the beauty of this place. There are also some Mughal-era tombs in the park complex.

Surajkund

Located about 8 km from Delhi, Surajkund is one of the best picnic spots in Delhi NCR. Golfing, fishing and boating are just some of the activities you can indulge in, while you are here with friends. The annual Mela in February attracts artisans from over the country who come to display their artworks and creativity. Make sure you take a note of the Surajkund Crafts Mela opening and closing time prior to your visit to avoid missing anything. The Surajkund Lake is the perfect spot to rest in a calm and serene environment.

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for bird watchers. Head here for a picnic and enjoy quality time with your family. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from October to February, when numerous migratory birds fly in, providing you with an excellent opportunity for bird watching. Buddha Jayanti Park

A park commemorating Buddha’s 2500th anniversary of attaining nirvana, the Buddha Jayanti Park holds special significance among Buddhists. This park is located in the Ridge area of Delhi. There is a beautiful statue of the Buddha in the park. One of most well-maintained parks in the Delhi NCR region, it has lush greenery and several water-bodies.

Garden of Five Senses

The Garden of Five Senses is a lush green park spread over 20 acres near the Mehrauli heritage area in Delhi. There are several parts to the garden which one can spend hours exploring. For instance, you can spend time at Neel Bagh, a pool of water lilies circled by pergola, or The Colour Gardens that has an amazing array of flowering shrubs, or The Courts of Specimen Plants where exotic and little known plant varieties are on display. The garden has many good restaurants in the vicinity. A lovely place for birding, this garden is perfect for a day out in the Delhi NCR region.
