about punnathoor kotta elephant sanctuary

The famous elephant camp Punnathoor Kotta Elephant Sanctuary at Punnathoorkotta is located on the grounds of the old Guruvayur Palace. Nearly 70 elephants, donated by devotees including Tamil Nadu’s chief minister Jayalalithaa, live here. The palace is in ruins but the grounds are well shaded, and children and grown-ups are fascinated by the sight of what elephants get up to when they’re off duty. This is one of the largest Sanctuary of its kind offering refuge to more than 70 elephants.
