about quila mubarak

The Qila Mubarak (1763) is a large complex built over 10 acres. It dominates the walled city, being set in the centre of an old-style bazaar. The complex contains the Qila Androon, an unevenly maintained edifice with a magnificent gateway. Some of the frescoes and mirror-and-gilt work in this part are worth seeing.

Qila Mubarak has a magnificent Durbar Hall, a later construction started in 1859. The Hall houses a rare collection of arms and armour, including weaponry such as swords and daggers that belonged to Guru Gobind Singh as well as a sword reputedly owned by Nadir Shah. It also houses a collection of strikingly beautiful, huge 20-foot chandeliers of Belgian glass in various shapes and colours.
