about ramappa temple

The only temple in the world to be named after its sculptor, the Ramappa Temple is a medieval structure dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in 1213, the temple is especially known for its spectacular Kakatiya Dynasty art. According to historical archives, it took 40 years to build this temple. The entire facade of the temple is covered with intricate carvings and sculpted figures taken from Hindu mythology.

A special mention goes to the main hall in front of the inner sanctum. It has numerous intricately carved pillars that are placed carefully so as to combine space and light in the best possible way.Though the main structure is preserved well, the same cannot be said for the surrounding smaller structures which lie in ruins. The temple is presently under the supervision of the ASI.
