about red rocks/seal colony

Red Rocks/Seal Colony get their name from the distinctive red colour which is a result of millions of years of undersea volcanic eruptions. Moreover, there is a beautiful fur seal colony on Sinclair Head where you can see a number of male seals. The Red Rocks Scientific Reserve was set up to conserve the area after growing public concern. This reserve is part of the Te Kopahau Reserve. Put aside at least half a day's time to explore this coastal walk, which is also an area of national significance in New Zealand. On Sundays, the gate is closed, which means it can only be accessed on foot or by mountaineers.
