about royal tasmanian botanical gardens

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart were established in 1818 and house an extensive collection of plant and tree varieties. Covering an area of 13.5 hectares, the gardens overlook the Derwent River and the Tasmanian Bridge.

The gardens are home to beautiful parklands as well as specialised collections of plants that are endangered in the wild. Walk in the serene Japanese garden, admire the traditional Chinese gardening practices or click pictures at the Lily Pond which was formed in 1840 by a natural stream. The remarkable and unusual Subantarctic Plant House is a must-visit for first time visitors. The Vegie Patch is famous among the locals of the area because of its connection with their gardening television guru Peter Cundall. The Herb Garden, the Easy Access Garden, the Cactus House and the Syme Memorial Fountain are some of the other attractions at the park.
