Totally worth the price!!!

by Kevin S on 23 Sep 2016 (Couple Traveller)

We spent one night here in September and it was the best thing we did in Japan. So, yeah, it's pricier than a traditional hotel, but the experience it offers far surpasses those places, too. Our rate included dinner for two (along with the free breakfast). The dinner was as good as it gets. The owner prepares the food in front of you if you opt to eat in the dining room (only 6 seats). We had originally requested dinner in our room, but changed our mind upon check-in. So glad we did. Br...

Beautiful space, kind staff, amazing food, close to station

by Danielle C on 22 Aug 2016 (Couple Traveller)

If I could, I would insist that every visitor to Kyoto spends at least one night in this Ryokan. Beautiful accommodations: mix of wood, bamboo, garden in the center, stone entrance to take off shoes, and spacious rooms. The detail really helped shape a very relaxing experience. I highly recommend booking dinner in advanced. The chef (7th generation) is wonderful to watch-- a true art. I was surprised to learned that in a traditional Ryokan the showers are outside the room and shared by guests. T...

Exquisite meal but costly

by Shiloh G on 20 Aug 2016 (Solo Traveller)

I stayed in two different ryokan while in Kyoto and while this was the more expensive of the two I do believe it was worth it. Definitely make sure you make a reservation for dinner, as this really justifies the price which would otherwise be quite prohibitive... and the meal truly is exquisite. I stayed here end of July, and trout was the seasonal fish for that region - which just so happens to be my fav fish from childhood! It's a 7 course meal and I made it to 6 before having to admit in emba...

Traditional accommodation with awesome baths

by Lisa I on 04 Aug 2016 (Family Traveller)

We stayed here during the heat of summer. It was close by to all the places we wanted to go and within easy walking distance of Kyoto train station which was very convenient. We could easily find good places to eat, and finish with dessert at Baskin and Robbins down from one of the shopping malls across from the train station. We walked from here to the Ginza district, though some people may prefer a taxi, and easily visited local sites. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the accommod...

Poor value

by kselund on 01 Jul 2016 (Family Traveller)

I stayed here with my mom and my husband in June 2016. The ryokan was clean and looked pretty close to the pictures. However, the value is just not there for the steep price you pay to stay here. We paid over $200 per person to sleep and for breakfast (no dinner was included) --- our money would have been much better spent elsewhere. The location of the ryokan was fine and the breakfast was tasty, but again, not enough to make up for the price paid for the evening. I am very glad we only sta...
