about sardar government museum

Situated in the public park of Umaid Gardens, on the High Court Road, this museum is named after Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur. Sardar Government Museum contains an arresting collection of 397 stone sculptures, more than 1900 miniature paintings, weaponry, coins and other arts and crafts belonging to different time periods. There is a separate historical section which gives information about the history of the city, the rules of Jodhpur, the Umaid Bhavan Palace and the Mehrangarh Fort.

The paintings of various royalties and the Jain Tirthankars are the pride of the museum. Coin collectors and numismatics will be impressed by their overwhelming coin collection. One can also visit the public library and the zoo (containing varieties of stuffed animals and desert birds) located in the gardens. Though the museum was established in 1909, it was opened to the public only in 1936.
