I think several of the reviews here are not for the hotel actually at this address. As a few people have noted, this hotel is not part of the 'Hanting' chain. This hotel is dismal. The worst hotel we've stayed at across 6 cities in China and 9 months in China. It's not just 'a bit dirty' or 'a bit worse for wear' - it's barely fit for a place to crash after a night out (why we stayed!). If you want a budget room to sleep and shower in, you can do substantially better for your money -- check ou...

Okay for small budgets

by YoungFlyer94 on 09 Dec 2015 (Friends Traveller)

Stayed here with two others (all three are uni students) in a triple room for three nights. Got a decent price of $198 AUD for all three nights. Rooms are clean, bathrooms are ageing. Good for people who just was a bed and don't care much about the room. It's better if you know Chinese when dealing with the front counter. The place is definitely very old but not dilapidated. The area is an interesting mix of the old Shanghai and new shopping complexes that have been built less than 300 metres ...

Cockroach for breakfast

by radeluka on 21 Jan 2015 (Friends Traveller)

This Han Ting Hotel is in one of the not so nice areas of Shanghai. The elevators and reception area look more like one of a hot-sheet hotel. And most of the chinese guest are probably really those which do not stay to long in a Hotel. Most of the electric in the rooms does not work, and you really don't want to use the A/C. The bathroom again seems kind of clean, the shower head was broken and for the first 2-3minutes only cold water was available. All in all it's one of the places you don't re...

Excellent price

by mattjones_lfc on 07 May 2014 (Friends Traveller)

The main draw of this hotel is the fact that you will pay a very low price for a clean, air conditioned room. This was fine for the purposes of my stay, but do not expect more than that. The area is a locals' area, which means there is a great opportunity in the morning to walk along the street and see the mass of food sellers stood in doorways. If you are expecting tourist bars/shops, this is not it, but all that is a short taxi or metro ride away, it is only two stops from East Nanjing Road.

If you're not picky and are simply coming to visit Shanghai, it's fine!

We ended up in this hotel by accident, thinking it was part of the Hanting chain of hotels, which are much better. (Same English/pinyin name: Hanting; different Chinese name in characters! Tricky, these people.) We were thus initially disappointed, but it turned out alright. The staff were friendly and one man at the desk spoke amazing English (I spoke in Mandarin with the others.) The room was quiet, A/C, clean enough, comfortable beds and pillows. There's a kettle and coffee cups, too. The bui...
