For handicrafts and souvenirs, Himachal Emporium on The Mall is a reliable stop. Maria Bros has a treasure trove of rare books, maps and etchings. Diwan Chand Atmaram offers great readymades and woollens at reasonable prices. The Tibetan Refugee Shop in Willow Bank, on the eastern end of the Mall just past the lift, has some excellent Tibetan souvenirs and carpets.

Lakkar Bazaar is the place for wooden stuff and bargaining the norm. Also pick up jams and toffees from here. The HPMC retail counter near the Sabzi Mandi sells excellent plum and apple wines. Shimla’s Chinese shoemakers were once famous for their handcrafted wares. Now, only if you place an order will the shoes be handmade. For more shopping options, you should start from the more famous spots.
