about sim's park

Laid out in 1874, Sim's Park in Coonoor runs down a hillside with a small lake at the bottom, with winding footpaths, pergolas, gazebos, and a dense shola skirting it. There’s a marvellous collection of trees — some dignified and scholarly, some happy, some content — from as far as Mexico, Australia and the West Indies. There is Burma teak, rudraksh, mahogany, birch, Spanish cherry and more. The effect is very atmospheric — worth a leisurely stroll or two.

The popular park is situated in a deep ravine on the Northern side of Coonoor Railway Station at an elevation of 1768 to 1798 m. The natural shola with winding footpaths all over the higher slopes of the park is the most picturesque aspect of the park. The numerous tree specimens planted in a scattered way all over the place gives a charming look to the place.
