about st. michael and st. gudula cathedral

The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula was given cathedral status in 1962. Dating back to 9th century, this Roman Catholic church is dedicated to St. Michael.  Relics of  martyr St. Gudula were transported here from the Saint Gaugericus Church on Saint-Géry Island in 1047, which is when the cathedral became of two patron saints: Michael and Gudula and so did the city of Brussels. The architecture of the cathedral is astonishing. The exterior is built of stone from the Gobertange quarry. The windows are huge made in Brabantian Gothic style. There is a small park in front of the church where you can sit and relax on sunny days and enjoy the wonderful view of the cathedral.
