A small but enchantingly beautiful place, Gangtok is one place that will definitely take your breath away. A 1 day trip to Gangtok might be a little bit hectic but with the following itinerary in your hands, you can plan out everything before you start the trip.

Located at a distance of hardly 5 km from the Gangtok, Do-drul Chorten is one of the most popular tourist spots in the place. Know more about this stupa from our Do-drul Chorten information page. The biggest and most important stupa in Sikkim, this place will wake up your soul. Soak in the spirituality, enhanced by the scenic surrounding of the place, and spend some hours in this religious site.

Even though its before your regular lunch time, have a sumptuous lunch at Cafe Culture or at Snow Lion Restaurant, which are amongst the most-loved eateries in Gangtok, and start your tour again, this time to the famous Tsomgo Lake. If you can, pack your lunch instead of having it early. As the lake is located at a distance of 35 km from Gangtok, commuting will take around 3 hours. An inner line permit is required, from the police, either through the tourism department or from your travel agent, for Indians to visit this place. Foreign nationals need a special permission to visit Tsongmo Lake. Before you head to the lake, click on our Tsongmo Lake information page and know more about it.

Open during the winter months the lake remains frozen and in summer you will see many varieties of floras surrounding it. Experience yak ride, explore the region, and try out the adventure sports in Gangtok, for which the place is distinctively noted. Have your packed lunch (if you haven’t had it) and continue your tour of the place.

After lunch, you can go to the Shiva temple, located near the lake and experience spirituality as well as scenic beauty.

The place gets colder at night and try to return a little bit early. After you reach your place of stay, have a warm, delicious dinner at your hotel’s restaurant and retire for the night.
