Built by the Chanda Rao More dynasty, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, with his physical incarnation in the black-stone lingam being the central deity here. It will almost be lunchtime now, so head out for a great meal at Grapevine, a cosy restaurant in the main city on Masjid Road. Buy jams, preserves and fresh strawberries - the trademark of Mahabaleshwar. Do visit the Holy Cross Church while you’re here, an old building dating back to 1831. A great place for some complete calm and peace, the church is fondly known as the “church in the hills” or also, sometimes, “toy church” for its beautiful but tiny structure. This church is open between 10 AM and 6 PM, so make sure you make it in time.
