Shillong is a place which cannot be covered in a single day but if you have just a day in your hands to explore Shillong, the following itinerary will be quite useful to you.

Have your breakfast and start early in the morning. Hire a cab and travel a few kilometres to the famous Shillong Golf Course. This golf course is quite near to the city of Shillong but it will take some hours if you want to tour the whole course.

After coming back from the golf course, have a quick tea and snacks at a roadside stall and head to the famous Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures. Walk down the corridors of this museum and know more about the culture and traditions of northeast India through the numerous artifacts on display in the museum. If you are visiting Shillong, it is a must to visit the famous town of Cherrapunji. Travelling to this place will take less than two hours. The journey itself will present many mesmerising views as you drive through the winding hill roads. Once you reach there, explore the caves and living root bridges on this wonderful town.

Drive back to the serene Ward’s Lake and if you have packed your lunch, sit by the side of the water or near the pretty flowers growing there and have it while you watch the lilies on the water. If you haven’t packed it, have a quick bite in one of the restaurants on the way to the park. If you are in the mood for some Continental food, Ginger Restaurant in The Polo Towers hotel is the place for you. Otherwise, you can always have amazing Chinese cuisine at the Bamboo Hut. Before you head on to your tour, make sure you visit the Botanical Garden at the place, specially the orchids.

Afternoon is the perfect time to visit the famous serene Umiam Lake. To know more about the lake you can visit our Umiam Lake information page. Apart from admiring the beauty of the lake, if you are someone with an adventurous streak, visit the Water Sports Complex and indulge in kayaking, sailing or boating.

On the way back, drive to Police Point and have a cup of coffee with some delicious cake and pastries. Now, its time to see the enchanting Bishop and Beadon Falls. This twin falls are in Mawprem part of Shillong and you will be enthralled to see this wonder of nature.

It is already evening but before you go back to your hotel, visit the Lady Hydari park. A popular waterfall, Crinoline Falls is also near the park and is a beautiful place to unwind.
