about sydney opera house

A multi-venue performing arts centre, Sydney Opera House's name is almost synonymous to its city. It will not be wrong to call this as the busiest performing arts centre as it gives a stage to around 1500 performances each year. It provides a venue for majorly four resident companies, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Theatre Company, The Australian Ballet and the Opera Australia. The place not only houses so much of creativity but is also one of the major attractions of the city recording around 7 million people as visitors every year. No wonder, it was announced a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2007.

Located close to the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, the attraction is known for its contemporary and unique architecture. The structure is supposed to be one of the best exhibitions of modern expressionist design and is considered to be among the most distinctive buildings of the 20th century. Not only large state of the art stages, but the buildings also has recording studios, restaurants/cafes, retail outlets and bars/pubs. If you are awestruck by the beauty of the place and not able to understand what to do next then there are guided tours available for your help. There are tours that include a frequent visit of the front-of-house spaces; there is also a daily tour that takes visitors backstage which is otherwise only restricted to crew members and performers.

The place is famous for its first time performances. The attractions was formally opened by Elizabeth II, the queen of Australia and the opening ceremony included the performance of famous Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. During the 2000 Summer Olympics, the Opera House acted as a focal point for many of the trialthon activities.
