What is Taj Mahotsav in Agra all about?

The Taj Mahotsav in Agra has been celebrated every year since 1992. It is among the most famous events and festivals celebrated in February. Defined as a festival or art, culture and cuisine, the Taj Mahotsav aims at bringing together people of all strata and uniting them under the same umbrella of togetherness.

Started initially as a means to promote tourism in India by Uttar Pradesh Tourism the festival is now a much awaited event by both tourists and natives alike. The idea behind the festival is to put India’s arts, crafts and culture on display while encouraging indigenous artisans. All the works is provided at an authentic and reasonable price range. Other festivities include folk dance, music, shayari and games along with elephant and camel rides. The funfair is the main attraction for children where they can enjoy the day trying out all the different rides on offer.

The variety of art on exhibit is countless, ranging from the paper mache work from South India, the wood and stone carvings from Tamil Nadu, the Aplic Work from Orissa, the marble and zardozi work from Agra, the Brass ware from Moradabad, Pottery from Khurja, Zari and Silk work from Banaras and the shawls & carpets from Kashmir, the list is endless.

And if you’re a fan of the folk arts then the music and dance all around is sure to keep you on your toes. The aura of the dance and music will take you to a world of tranquility. One of the most famous dances performed is the Brij Bhoomi, one that forces you to join along and dance to the rhythm of Mathura. The most renowned attraction of the festival is quite obviously the cuisine section. Paradise to all the foodies out there the range of delicacies come from all over India. Prepared to perfection each dish on sale is to die for. The Amritsari Kulcha, vegetarian thali and the authentic food from Uttar Pradesh are all must tries.
