about The Imperial

True to its name, imperial and blue blooded charm.

In a Nutshell

Imperial Delhi represents the best of the British Raj. It is aristocratic, stately and elite. The white, low-rise building is designed in line with the architectural style of Lutyens’ Delhi. Imperial Hotel is the heights of luxury and class. Stay here to be a part of history and to make a statement.

Location

The hotel is located in the middle of Connaught Place. It is surprising how quiet the property is, given its location in the metropolis. The hotel is a short 10-15 minute drive from New Delhi Railway Station and Indira Gandhi International Airport is 40 minutes away. There is so much to do around the hotel that one doesn’t really need to venture too far away. Khan Market, a posh market popular with diplomats and expats, is close by. Go for a drive towards India Gate and the Rashtrapati Bhawan to see Indian patriotism in all its glory. The lawns around India Gate are a popular picnic spot and a great place to relax and enjoy a day out during sunny winter days.

Room and Amenities

Houses in the days gone by had high ceilings to give an aura of space as well as make the room cool. The rooms at Imperial Delhi boast of high ceilings too. The rooms spell grandeur in every corner. Paintings on the walls showcase Delhi during the British Raj. The marble-floored bathrooms are lavish and have bath-tubs to soak in. Rooms are done up in pastel shades with white drapes. If money is no constraint, go all out and book a suite. The suites in the Imperial Hotel are a class apart and ensure that your stay will remain memorable for many years to come. The royal imperial suite is 3000 square feet with French linen and a large private verandah lounge. The study has 80 books and paintings by Prince Alexis Soltykoff.

Facilities

The colonial style hotel has many dining options for guests to choose from. The Spice Route is a speciality South East Asian restaurant with Thai and Indonesian décor. The food reflects the importance of spices in food from India to Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. 1911 celebrates the year that King George V declared New Delhi as the capital of India. The understated lawns are perfect for languid Sunday brunches. Head to Daniell’s Tavern for your Indian food fix which is open only for dinner and has a live band that plays on all days but Tuesday. Patiala Peg or 1911 Bar are both great venues to catch up with friends over a beverage. If you are craving some Italian food, San Gimignano recreates the beauty of Tuscany through its flavours.

There is a lovely swimming pool with a gorgeous fountain right in the middle. The hotel building is surrounded by well manicured lawns with tall palm trees. The hotel has various banquet halls popular for hosting functions of the city’s elite. A spa and salon in the hotel make sure that you are well taken care of.

Highlights and Tips

Imperial Delhi is famous for its colonial charm and ageless beauty. If you like to be treated like aristocracy, this is where you must stay. The location of the hotel is perfect for business as well leisure travellers.

Beautiful Hotel but very expensive food
reviewed on Jun 24 2014
I love this hotel it is like stepping back in time, it is well maintained and the gardens are a mass of colour. We used to always stay here but now the price of tariff is way out of our reach. However when in Delhi we always visit here for the delicious lunch in the garden, staff are friendly and courteous. We were there last month to enjoy lunch again, but were totally shocked to how much the buffet lunch cost had risen since 12 months before. In 2013 we paid equal to $27 Aus. ahead, it is now $66 Aus. ahead. This would cost more then having lunch at a top Perth hotel. They also charged us for a bottle of Himalayan water which we did not order and we told them to take it away, which they did but we were still charged for it on the bill. We were a family of five.

Taste of India
reviewed on Jun 22 2014
Our trip to Delhi was to experience India, their culture and to visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal. We stayed at the Imperial for 2 days and was given a taste of years gone by, the old and new combined to give guests that unique feeling of the old India. Our room and the facilities were beautiful, the bed a king size was very comfortable and inviting. The service was overwhelmingly traditional, an experience in itself, dining rooms offered a variety of cultures as well as English. the hotel offered spa services which I did not use, but did use the magnificent pool. The staff facilitated our tour guides contact with us in an easy manner which enhanced our overall visi

The Imperial, New Delhi
reviewed on Jun 20 2014
Everything was perfect. The rooms are huge and very comfortable. The hotel employees makes you feel at home. The breakfast is awesome and you can taste Idian food flavor. The pool is amazing and they give you sunscreen. Spa is a must go also but you can enjoy the steam and jacuzzi without booking a massage. This is one of the most impressive hotels I have stayed at. The decor, the history, the service, the pool, the gym, the gleaming marble everywhere. Quality is in the details, and this hotel gets the details right. It is centrally located walking distance from Connaught place, though I admit, I checked in on my way through Delhi, to avoid hustle and bustle of Delhi. With facilities so good, it is almost a shame to venture out. Book yourself enough time to appreciate the hotel and its amenities. The service was impeccable. The food great. Arrange your own tour guide for Agra....the one the concierge booked to us almost ruined our trip to Taj Mahal.
