Big space but not Japanese style

by Jessica C on 01 Jan 2017 (Family Traveller)

The space is big but maybe too modern design or kind of mixed style. I like the big space but a lot of them in black color which I am a little bit not used to. The room in the beginning feels like inside the basement. The front door looks like a fire drill door and the walking hall is filled with the kitchen vent smell. The front desk lady was very nice and helps us to reserve breakfast, taxi arrangement. Overall, if you hate the small space (typical Japan hotel), this is a definitely the good c...

great location; ample rooms and great service

by gglucas on 30 Dec 2016 (Family Traveller)

We had 2 rooms booked at the Screen for a family and the hotel was excellent for its location, the quality of the staff (who agreed to change one of the room as we wished one on higher floors) and overall the atmosphere. The hotel design is not always exactly pragmatic, but for a boutique hotel i totally accept that. The location is excellent with a refined set of shops ropund teh corner as well as being in the middle of town, perfect for bus stops carrying you around the temples and other sites...

Gorgeous & Spacious Boutique Hotel

by marmar510 on 04 Dec 2016 (Couple Traveller)

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at The Screen and we are so happy we found this hotel! It's in an adorable neighborhood with tons of shops, cafes and restaurants, a few minutes from major bus lines and a train line, walking distance from the Imperial Palace and within a 20 minute walk to Pontocho Alley (an area by the river with TONS of bars and restaurants). The hotel is very trendy and cool--we stayed in semi suite 402 which was HUGE--not just by Japanese standard but for any hotel room...

Quirky, friendly but

by GM G on 04 Nov 2016 (Couple Traveller)

Agree with many of the reviews, staff friendly and helpful but overall just slightly weird and maybe just too edgy or do I really mean black? Black corridors, black room and if you actually want to walk round the bed, don't choose 203. If just one metre of the toilet had been committed to the gap between wall mounted TV, coffee making place and bed life would have been easier. For a "designer" room you'd have thought a light in the black wardrobe in a black dressing area might have occurred ...

Great boutique hotel with huge beds - a rarity in Japan!

by howardhelly on 31 Oct 2016 (Couple Traveller)

I wanted a hotel with a bit of character for my latest stay in Kyoto and this hotel really delivered. We stayed in room 101 which had a lovely huge bed screened from a small sitting area by shoji screens. The staff were quiet, unobtrusive and very helpful and responsive. An unexpected perk of the room was a huge jacuzzi tub which was perfect for soaking in after a long day walking around the city. The hotel is right next to the Imperial Palace grounds and a short (10 minutes) walk to the main sh...
